The Ladies Auxiliary

After their meeting with Cran and Steve, Thistlewyn and Rosa talked the afternoon and night away. Rosa explained that before the fires, her community had a Ladies’ Auxiliary group that met regularly. They worked with the Canopy Council to welcome newcomers, ready their new abodes by cleaning and sprucing them up, and arrange fiestas in their honor.

It was very late when they both fell asleep dreaming of all of the exciting things they had planned for the community of T-Bone’s Place. First on tomorrow’s agenda was the recruitment stage…

When Thistlewyn woke the next morning, it was still early. She could tell by the way the sun’s rays were just beginning to peek through her kitchen windows. It was one of the many things she simply adored about her lamppost home.

She listened to see if Rosa was still resting, but didn’t hear her at all… Thistlewyn flew from her bed to the door, she looked out and could see Steve and Rosa already over at the feeder. She smiled to herself. It was lovely to have such kind, caring friends that let her rest a little longer without getting mad.

She went to her kitchen and made them all some hot acorn tea to start their busy day, and joined her friends in the feeder.

Thistlewyn, Rosa and Steve gather inside the rustic bird feeder at T-Bone’s Place, sharing mugs of hot acorn tea during the first Ladies’ Auxiliary meeting.

She and Rosa had decided the night before to ask Steve to be their one and only, honorary, male member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Thistlewyn set the mugs down and cleared her throat, “Ahem, Stevo, ye know ye’re integral to the success of the new conflagration and restructurin’ of the Nesting Authority. An’ well, me an’ Rosa, well, we were gabbin’ and gawin’ last night. An’ she has brilliant ideas about a Ladies’ Auxiliary, she had one back home to help! You hafta be the honorary man!”

Steve and Rosa both just sat there a moment, then both just burst into laughter at her passionate plea.

Steve replied, “Well, I would be a fool to decline your offer of such an honorable position, Miss Thistlewyn and Miss Rosa.” Then he gave them both a little impertinent bow with a saucy grin, as though he were at court and they were queens.

They all sat and laughed and drank their acorn tea, commenced the first ever meeting of the Ladies’ Auxilliary of T-Bone’s Place and decided from that day forward… The Ladies and Stevo would meet in the feeder to discuss the important community events… Births, deaths, new arrivals, those moving away, marriages and more.

As for Thistlewyn and Rosa… The two were becoming fast friends in this new home they had found themselves plopped into and welcomed so wholeheartedly. They both wanted to give something back to the place and people that had given them so much. The Ladies Auxiliary was just the beginning for these two.
