1. Appearance and feel

   My wife purchased this trimmer for me, and I personally feel good about the product. It is an attractive tool. The unit has a nice balance to the construction.  The controls are simple for ease of use.  I am a 6’5” tall guy, so this matters because having to stoop over to use this product gets old quite rapidly.  My wife is very observant, and also purchased an extended handle for me, to keep me upright.  Game changer!

 2. Ease of start

How many videos have you seen where a guy is throwing his gas-powered string trimmer as far away from himself as he can possibly get it due to poor starting issues?  The Husqvarna 122L trimmer is so easy to start.  I filled it with 50:1 mix gas, primed the carburetor with the manual primer, engaged the choke, pulled the rope, and it tried to start.  Disengaged the choke, pulled the rope again, and it cranked right up.  I let it warm up for approximately 20 seconds then increased the RPMs to full throttle.  Was instantly in love.

3. Ease of use

If it weren’t for occasionally running out of gas and trimmer string, you could probably operate this trimmer non-stop all day.  The string spool was designed with such ease of refill.  Included is a tutorial video for spool reloading.  This trimmer is a bump feed, so when you feel the need, just bump the trimmer head on the ground and it will feed out a bit more string and trim the excess string to the proper length.  The trimmer is designed to utilize up to .105” diameter string, so it can tolerate some pretty rough terrain.

With the smooth start, the ease of use, the effortless string refill, and the lightweight, durable design, I just don’t see how to make a product perform better than this.

 The only thing that would make me happier with this product is if it would operate itself.

Final Thoughts

The Husqvarna 122L has done exactly what we needed it to do around T-Bone’s Place. It is easy to handle, straightforward to maintain, and has held up to the kind of regular trimming we ask of it around the farmstead.

That is really what matters to us in a tool. We don’t need fancy. We need something that starts every time and keeps running when there is a job that needs doing around here. The 122L has earned its place in the Tool Shed.
