A Honey of A Fan

The summers in the furthest regions of East Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma have quite a temperature range. Starting from those easy days in the early parts of May, when the heat is nice and gentle, when it isn’t quite as aggressive and mean-spirited. Then you get into the hard days of August and September; those days are relentless and just vile. The heat feels like it is out to get you, stealing your breath when you walk out the door; why, even your eyesight, if you’re an unfortunate eyeglass wearer (IYKYK). It is like The Tarasque has a hold of the land and is torturing us all, animals and human alike!
I don’t know how a place can be so hot, go so long without rain, and yet be so stinking humid that the dirt grows mold; all the while, the grass is dying from lack of moisture…the confusion and ugh! 🥴😮💨
Even with ample air conditioning in your home, it is essential to keep the air circulating as well. Fans are a vital part of this, whether it is ceiling fans inside or out on the deck, or portable fans. Keeping the air circulated helps prevent mold and mildew growth in the corners of your home in climates like this. Even during winter months, the humidity is very high; we often don’t shut the A/C off for the year until close to Thanksgiving and it has been known to be running full tilt on many Christmases’ past. Fans also reduce the strain on your A/C unit by spreading the cool air faster, extending the life of the unit and lowering the electric bill by reducing overall consumption of electricity.
This summer started out as if Mother Nature was not going to be throwing hands with us, we were getting ample amounts of rain without getting beaten to smithereens in the process, temperatures were hot but nothing aggressive. We made it nearly into August without hitting triple digits, not counting the Real Feel temperatures, those don’t matter. It ALWAYS really feels somethin’ awful in the summer here, blame it all on the humidity. (If you cain’t hear the snark in my tone, try a little harder 🤭🫶🤷) I don’t know who, what, where, when, or why the Mother got angry, but she came into August hot and crabbier than an old bat caught in a hot flash time loop she can’t get out of. She ain’t been kind!
We had to up our fan game here on the ‘stead! I keep some key points in mind whilst shopping because we won’t be staying in this house for more than another year or two. We have plans to downsize and I keep that in mind when I am making new purchases. I wanted something tall, narrow, streamlined, with multiple setting options. I also wanted a remote for the times when I may be recovering from surgery or we’re in bed and want to change it without getting up at night.
After looking at the options that were readily available to me locally, I opted for the Honeywell QuietSet Whole Room Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote, in white. At the time of the original publication, Amazon had the same fan at a significantly lower price, and we were satisfied enough that I was considering purchasing a second unit. Keep reading for our one-year update and what changed after extended use.
It is quiet, even when it is not in the designated quiet mode. The lights dim out so that there is nothing distracting at night to annoy you and keep you awake. It is tall enough to cover you when you are in bed sufficiently, and we have a 16” tall platform frame for reference. It is also very lightweight and has a handy carrying handle on the back for transporting from room to room.
Honeywell really covered every base with this fan, in my opinion. It is powerful, yet lightweight and portable. It is compact and fires on all cylinders and you just could not ask for more in a fan.

We have been running this fan for over a year now and we have some updates for you…
It is NOT quiet. Not even in the Sleep or Calm mode 🥴🤣.
However, it is a TOUGH fan! We can attest to that fact. We take this sucker on a migratory trek back and forth through from one end of the house to the other every day, twice. I can’t feel my hands, hell I can’t feel my elbows some days, so I it has been dropped a time or three. (I think it got a tad quieter the last time🥴🤭)
The base has a notch cut out of either side for the cord and that is real nice, but it is just that, a notch. Every time you move the fan you're engaged in a cord war…it just would have been nice if they would have made the cord snap in there. Just saying…
It doesn’t have enough power to push enough air for the heat we are trying to combat here.
So, all things considered, we won’t be repurchasing this fan, I am on the hunt for a different one. It is not a BAD fan, it is just not what was advertised (quiet) or what we really need, long term. Also, if you are a person that is noise-averse or has issues with noise exhaustion, this truly is NOT the fan for you.
