JJ’s Family Inquisition

JJ went home that night from his parents’ house, mulling over the confirmation that he and two of his brothers were indeed adopted. This shouldn’t have come as a shock or surprise. I mean, look at the four of them. Somehow the whole thing was gnawing at him all the same. Why did they keep this news a secret for so long?

Cletus and Reba had been such amazing parents and had given each of their sons equal love and attention. In his mind, they were his parents and would remain his parents forever.

Looking back on their upbringing, he saw what a super job their adoptive parents had done, considering all the children looked different, had different dietary needs, and different temperaments.

How did they know how to take care of these diverse babies?

In the beginning, did they have help?

Had their biological parents helped them create an owner’s manual?

There were so many questions eating at him and so many more waiting to be answered.

About halfway through the night, he got up, and grabbed a piece of chalk, and his slate tablet, and began writing down all the beings that he knew were involved, along with their relationships to the case.

That was the ticket. He would approach this mystery as a part of any other legal case to be solved, just as he was trained.

JJ spent the rest of the night compiling everything he knew about the case into one column and all questions that he needed answered into another.

In JJ’s mind, Cletus was where this investigation began…
