VEVOR 1000g Grain Mill Review: Worth It?

Here we are in 2026, a mere 228 years after that letter was written, and we are asking ourselves, “To grind or not to grind?” Not only whether TO grind, but what is safe to grind. It has become the wild, wild west of wheat berries, all in the name of getting a safe and yummy PB and J for our kids… and maybe a midnight snack for ourselves!

Mr. Bone and I have been on the sourdough train for a couple of years. We enjoyed it so much; we made bread, noodles, biscuits, various goodies, and so much more.

Like so many others, we kinda became alarmed when there was news that there was the possibility of glyphosates in our general flour supply. We had already started to play with freshly milled flour through a friend and someone I consider a mentor in many ways. She afforded me the opportunity to put my hands on freshly milled Khorasan, Spelt and Einkorn.

I was able to say not only no, but he-yell no to Spelt 😂… that is one finicky heifer! I learned that I do enjoy Khorasan, while einkorn is just meh for us.  That was a fun time! I still never REALLY mastered FMF.

Once we determined we were going to begin sprouting wheat berries for the rabbits, it only made sense that we should ALSO start milling those berries for our own needs, as well. I understand that we can purchase “agricultural grade” berries for the rabbits. However, we are raising these rabbits for meat, and if I don’t want to risk these chemicals in MY bread, why would I feed it to them to then transfer into the meat I am going to eat? THAT is why we are NOT sprouting Ag-grade berries…

Now, back to the grinding… I looked realistically at the options available for grinders and what OUR needs now and future needs might be. We looked at grinders from both ends of the price spectrum, their capabilities and limitations, their ability to be repaired and the cost involved to do so, the time it takes to grind the flour or other product, and WHAT can each actually grind?

I understand that we are comparing oranges and apples here, as the VEVOR is a 403 stainless-steel grinder with a three-layer stainless-steel blade system that spins at a speed of 28,000 rpm, and that is how it pulverizes the material, whether that be wheat berries, rice, corn, or whatever medium you choose that is within its range. The NutriMill is a stone-grinding mill with corundum stones. These stones are no joke. Corundum ranks 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, while diamond ranks 10, and NutriMill touts its stones as “near diamond” hardness. Corundum also has two well-known gem varieties: ruby and sapphire.

We ran a test grinding 250 grams, a 50/50 mix of hard red and soft white wheat berries. We did misspeak in the video and called it 500 grams 🥴, but the actual weighed test batch was 250 grams. We also picked up a P3 International Kill A Watt P4400 electricity usage monitor, which gave us the ability to monitor voltage, watts, amperage, kWh and Hz. Handy little tool to have around! For this test, we focused mainly on the voltage, amperage and wattage the VEVOR 1000g unit was actually pulling while it ran.

There are a LOT of unanswered questions being circulated through the interwebs about the unit and brand. One of the main ones is cleaning the unit. VEVOR instructs you to use rice and/or dried tea leaves during the initial cleaning to help remove oils and residue, and for routine cleaning they recommend using the little brush that comes with the unit and wiping the chamber with a dry cloth. They also tell you NOT to wash the grinding chamber directly with water. 🤷 My logical brain just assumed, and I know… 🤭🤪 ANYWAY, I figured if the rice and tea leaves worked to clean it the first time, why not use the same method when it needs a good cleaning later? So, I toss about a tablespoon of rice and roughly the same amount of tea leaves in there and give it a whiz! When you watch the video, you can see I had cleaned it after my last use, and she is as shiny as the day I got her in June.

Another query that circulates, but nary finds an answer, which baffles the bejeebers out of me, is whether or not you can bake with the flour you grind… um, yes. 😂 That was my sole reason for purchasing the unit, and I have been baking with the flour from it regularly. I am excited to get into some of the other grinding uses as well; spices, rice, coffee, lentils, beans and more. It is a very versatile little machine, and although I haven’t ventured down all of those roads yet, I do have some rye waiting in my freezer. 🤭

There is not a published flour temperature listed for the VEVOR, while NutriMill states that the Harvest averages between 100–115°F, depending on the texture of the grind. We wanted to understand this better: why the temperature matters, what it means to our bread, and what it could mean to YOUR bread.

So, we did one of the things we do best, we went on a research hunt. 👀🤓 What we learned is that there really is not one magic temperature where wheat suddenly becomes “damaged” during milling. What we do know is that several reputable grain and milling companies consider flour temperatures around 118–120°F to be normal for home milling, and some deliberately try to stay at or below about 118°F to help preserve quality. Our VEVOR reached 118°F on camera, which puts it right in that same range.

We are going to keep testing at different batch sizes to see how the temperature actually behaves inside the chamber. That will tell me whether I need to add more rest time between grinding bursts to keep the flour within my own preferred temperature range and preserve as much of the wheat’s nutritional quality as practical.

We left the full sound on for most of the video, particularly while grinding the flour. The reason for that is that during my research, across all kinds of platforms and apps, people kept asking over and over about the loudness and what the noise level of the unit is really like. I can sit here and give you a beautifully written, flowery description that will make your heart sing, your toes curl, and all your bells whistle, but it still won’t make your ears hear what I hear. 🫶🤷 I have a little tinnitus some days. I worked in sawmills and an MDF plant, and I did NOT always wear my hearing protection. 🤭🙄 So, I bet this machine won’t bother me like it might bother someone who has spent their whole life working in a VERY quiet atmosphere. This is going to be LOUD to some and not a biggie to others. T-Bone has had his head shoved in CNC machines, presses and all kinds of other equipment for 35 years. He can’t hear anything… 🤭😂 Well, it’s selective. So, I believe the loudness issue is going to be a contextual thing. You can be the judge when you watch it…

The last thing I want to talk about is that 3000W rating and what that actually looks like in terms of amperage at the meter and what your breaker box is really seeing. First, let’s look at the motor in the unit. I knew right off the bat when I opened the package that I was NOT dealing with your average run-of-the-mill appliance motor situation, because VEVOR included replacement BRUSHES for the MOTOR! WOOHOO! Now, I have already mentioned that I worked in sawmills. I also went to school back in the day for Industrial Maintenance, both the mechanical and electrical sides of that world, and I have worked in the field in different capacities at various times throughout my life.

VEVOR identifies the grinder as having a brush motor, but they do not specify the exact motor design. Based on the 110–120V AC input, replaceable carbon brushes, and advertised 28,000 rpm speed, the closest mechanical description is a high-speed brushed universal motor, also called a series-wound commutator motor.

Now, here is where that 3000W rating gets interesting. If this machine were actually pulling a continuous 3000 watts from a 110–120V household outlet, it would require at least about 25–27 amps, depending on the actual line voltage, and potentially more depending on power factor. That would be a whole different animal on a normal household circuit.

So, we put a Kill A Watt meter on ours and tested it.

What we measured was only about 9–11 amps while the grinder was actually running. That tells us the 3000W printed on the machine is NOT its sustained electrical draw from the wall. VEVOR does not explain exactly how they arrive at that 3000W rating, so I am not going to pretend I know whether they are referring to peak motor power or using some other rating method. What I CAN tell you is what our Kill A Watt showed during actual operation, and that goes a long way toward explaining why these things are not flipping breakers in kitchens everywhere.

I love my VEVOR, and I would definitely repurchase this brand. I think, however, I would like to size up. When I bake, I like to do all of my baking in one day, so I have to grind and regrind enough flour to do my bread, my goodies 🫶, noods, tortillas, and whatever other baked or flour goods we might need for the week. 1000 grams of flour is just never enough to bulk feed my starter AND complete all of my baking for the week. That is my only complaint: I just didn’t get a big enough unit.
