The Four Amigos

When Arthur was a mere chickling, living in a bush nest, life was good. Occasionally mom or dad would drop in and clean up the nest, check Arthur and his siblings and feed them. Arthur and his three siblings were male. It seemed to be a good beginning to life. The four brothers’ names were Arthur, Tex, Preston, and JJ.

Four young bird brothers, Arthur the Pileated Woodpecker, Tex the Mockingbird, Preston the Sharp-shinned Hawk, and JJ the Blue Jay, crowded together in their nest.

Four brothers. Four very different birds. One nest.

Arthur, Tex, Preston, and JJ may not look much alike, but from the beginning, they were family. Long before they became the Four Amigos of T-Bone’s Place, they were just four rowdy chicklings growing up together in the same bush nest.

Hmmm. Go figure…

Arthur was always an astute bird, and as they all grew it seemed Arthur was getting larger than his brothers, and his coloring was different than the rest. It was obvious none of his brothers looked alike. And the one named Tex was the only sibling that resembled the parents. Hmmm. Go figure…

Arthur turned out to be a Pileated Woodpecker.

Tex was a Mockingbird.

Preston was a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

JJ was a Blue Jay.

But, through it all, the parents treated them all equally. There was no dysfunction in that junction.

The brothers were a rowdy bunch, and it didn’t take long before the neighborhood had the picture: that wasn’t the family to mess with. To this day, the brothers all congregate at their parents’ house for holidays and such. Gets pretty noisy around there.

But all the brothers stayed at or near T-Bone’s Place, and they all met regularly at the creek. The creek was common ground for all wildlife at T-Bone’s, and it was understood that it was a communing area and not a hunting ground. All agreed, except Kong, the Mississippi Kite, who had migrated to the T-Bone’s area a bit back. When he’s near, it seems like banjo’s should be playing.

The topic of safety had come up regularly at the brothers’ creek meetings, that the four of them would have to come together as one force to stand against the Kite family if the need arose.

T-Bone Tress

T-Bone Tress is the hands-on voice behind T-Bone’s Place, sharing honest reviews, practical homesteading projects, useful tools, farmstead lessons, and the occasional “well, that didn’t go as planned.” His wife, Jax Tress, is right there in the middle of it with him as a fellow author, farmstead partner, camera operator, idea wrangler, and more likely to be found creating the recipes and cooking up the next wild idea for them to try. Between the two of them, if they build it, fix it, grow it, cook it, test it, break it, or learn something worth passing along, chances are it’ll end up at T-Bone’s Place.
