Thistlewyn's Thoughts: By the Creek

Thistlewyn couldn’t wrap her mind around these past few days. She was sitting beside Bear Creek, washing out some of the silken rags that Steve had left for her in her new home.

She was supposed to have come from the “magical” world, and by all rights, she reckoned she had. She had spent her whole life around fairies, elves, sprites… why she’d even met a tree spirit once and a few hearth-folk! She had never, in all her days, imagined such a land could exist as T-Bone’s Place.

She had had some very interesting events occur since her arrival, she’d hafta acknowledge that freely and willingly. Starting with that big, beast of a bird King Arthur yacking up his breakfast all over her first thing. She started to chuckle a little at the memory of it. No sooner had that little bit of mirth begun to bubble up into her chest than it was roiling out of her like someone was tickling her like it was an Olympic sport and she had to lean on a nearby tree trunk to catch her breath.

MERCY! What was wrong with her!? She had not laughed this much in her entire 300 years of existence. Come to think of it, she had been an emotional basket case since arriving here. What was that all about? Crying in front of STRANGERS? She didn’t CRY! Sweet saints… maybe she was ill, dying? Had coming through the veil damaged her?

No, that couldn’t be so. She had heard stories of others coming and going, crossing over and back all of her life and none had spoken of maladjusted emotions.

She sat quietly, at the brightly shaded water’s edge and tried to remember the stories and tales of those who’d crossed over and come back to tell the tales. She had been such a young lass and had nary paid them much mind. Ach!

All she knew for certain was that she was happy, genuinely happy. She had woken each morning here, and one thing had been missing… It wasn’t her kinfolk, her family, friends or folk, not her home or land that she was familiar with. It was that sense of feeling like she didn’t belong. She had not felt that since arriving in this strange new land, with these kind, strange new creatures... no, not once.
